How fast do the results come in?
For a rapid non-federal test, usually done for pre-employment, negative results will take about 5 minutes and employers will receive results same day.
Specimens that are sent to the lab take about 2 days for results.
What drugs are tested?
Federal DOT drug tests consist of a 5-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC, Amphetamines, Cocaine, Opioids, and Phencyclidine/PCP.
Non-Federal testing is up to company policy.
What if I am using Marijuana legally in MN?
Non-Federal tests are up to employer policy. Some may or may not test for Marijuana/THC.
It is important to note that jobs requiring safety-sensitive duties are required to have random DOT/Federal drug tests, which always test for THC due to federal regulations.
Federal drug tests always test for THC. The MRO, or Medical Review Officer, cannot deem a positive marijuana test as negative regardless of documentation such as state-issued medical marijuana cards, physician recommendations or certifications, or dispensary records or receipts, as these documents do not satisfy Part 40 requirements for a “legitimate medical explanation.” There is no leeway for THC use for a safety-sensitive functions job.
What if a test comes back positive and I have an Rx from my doctor?
The MRO, or Medical Review Officer, will contact you after the test results are in to review any prescriptions. Please watch for their phone call or email after your test is completed and sent to the lab.
